GILGIT: The mountaineering community is mourning the loss of Czech climber Klára Kolouchová, who died during her expedition on Nanga Parbat (8125m), also known as “Killer Mountain,” on Thursday.

Karrar Haidri, Vice President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), expressed his sorrow, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of renowned Czech mountaineer Klára Kolouchová, aged 46, during her Nanga Parbat expedition.”

Reports suggest that Klára fell between Camp I and Camp II, potentially due to an explosion involving her oxygen cylinder. The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 am near Bunar Base Camp in the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rescue teams were immediately alerted, and efforts are ongoing to locate and recover her body from the site of the fall.

Klára Kolouchová was a celebrated mountaineer, widely recognized as the first Czech woman to summit both Everest and K2. She had arrived in Pakistan on June 15, accompanied by her husband and a team of five members.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and the entire mountaineering community during this difficult time,” Haidri added.
