A popular pulao eatery operating in the federal capital has denied using donkey meat in their dishes after a list started circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups accusing some Islamabad-based restaurants and cafes of serving donkey meat.
As per a report in ‘The Punch’ the owner of the ‘Malang Jan Bannu beef pulao’ restaurant in Tarnol Zahir has said that they have not used any donkey meat in their dishes.
He told the YouTube channel, that the donkey meat has been confiscated from Saranjani area and not Tarnol as indicated in several social media groups and channels.
He said that it is just a ploy to malign the restaurant and turn away their customers.
The Islamabad Food Authority, in a major crackdown on Sunday, had seized over 1000 kg of donkey meat from the Tarnol area.
The meat recovered during the raid was destroyed immediately to prevent it from entering the local food supply.
The IFA has initiated an inquiry to trace the distribution network of the meat, while also investigating any local partners or suppliers involved in the illegal activity.
Two Chinese companies have also formally applied for licenses and permission to set up slaughterhouses for the export of donkey meat from Pakistan.
According to officials at the Ministry of National Food Security, a detailed inquiry is currently underway into the applications.
The ministry said donkey meat and bones will be allowed for export to China once the regulatory process is finalised.
To address public concerns, the ministry clarified that donkey meat would only be processed in Gwadar and not distributed to local markets.
