Floods: PM assures political leaders of full federal support

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reached out to leaders of various political parties, pledging full federal support to tackle the devastation caused by heavy monsoon rains and flooding.

In separate phone calls, the prime minister expressed grief over the loss of lives in southern Sindh, especially Karachi, and assured the Sindh government of all possible assistance from federal institutions to handle the emergency situation, according to the state run news agency APP.

He spoke to Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, and Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Shehbaz Sharif instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman to maintain close coordination with provincial authorities, assist the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and issue timely early warnings to residents about potential risks.

While discussing relief efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Hafiz Naeem, the prime minister praised Al-Khidmat Foundation for its active role in rescue and relief operations.

He also assured Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of full federal cooperation to manage the flood situation in Sindh and prepare for expected rainfall in the coming days.
