ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has nominated Mahmood Khan Achakzai for the slot of opposition leader in the National Assembly, party secretary general Salman Akram Raja confirmed on Wednesday.
He added that Azam Khan Swati has been nominated for the opposition leader’s position in the Senate.
A day earlier during a meeting with advocate Ali Bukhari a day earlier, Khan said Achakzai would be a suitable choice under the current political circumstances. However, he stressed that the final decision rests with the party’s political committee.
For the Senate, Khan advised the committee to consider the names of Azam Swati and Ali Zafar, adding that Swati would be more appropriate for the position of opposition leader in the upper house.
Raja said Khan has sought five names for the opposition leader’s slot in the Punjab Assembly, out of which one will be finalised.
Regarding upcoming by-elections, Khan directed the party to take a decision after mutual consultation.
Sources said the PTI founder has also left the decision regarding participation in upcoming by-elections to the political committee.
