Islamabad Rain: rescue operation launched in Chatta Bakhtawar

ISLAMABAD: Due to heavy downpour In Islamabad and surrounding areas, residents of Chatta Bakhtawar are stranded inside their homes.

Heavy rain spell has already submerged low-lying neighbourhoods of Islamabad. In Chatta Bakhtawar, parts of Park Road have been flooded, and several residents are stranded inside their homes.

Rescue operations are underway, and people are being shifted to safer locations. Authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel during rainfall.

NDMA WARNS OF FLOODS

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning predicting rainfall in the upper and central regions of the country until August 8, raising fears of flooding in several rivers and low-lying areas.

According to NDMA, moderate to high-level flooding is feared in the Chenab and Jhelum rivers, while the Kabul River at Nowshera is likely to witness a sharp rise in water levels. There is also a risk of flooding in streams and seasonal nullahs of Swat and Panjkora.

The NDMA report further states that low-level flooding is expected at Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa, and Guddu barrages.

In Hunza, Ghanche, and Shigar, flood-like conditions and overflowing of streams are anticipated due to continued rainfall.
