PESHAWAR: A new case of the deadly Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) commonly known as Congo virus has been reported in Peshawar within the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to 12 in just seven months, according to the provincial health department.
Health officials confirmed that three people have died from the virus so far this year. The fresh case has raised concerns among citizens and medical professionals alike.
The virus usually spreads through tick bites or direct contact with the blood and tissues of infected animals.
Health authorities believe the recent surge in cases is linked to poor safety measures during Eid-ul-Azha, as animal markets were set up across the province without proper precautions.
Back in April, the National Institute of Health (NIH) had already warned the public through health advisories about the threat of Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).
