ISLAMABAD: Amid heightened security in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi over fears of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest, fifteen female activists have been arrested.
According to sources, police have been instructed to make immediate arrests if PTI workers attempt to stage demonstrations. Authorities have also launched a crackdown on those involved in wall chalking.
Law enforcement is closely monitoring the movement of suspected protesters, with strict orders for swift action against any illegal gatherings or demonstrations.
At least 15 PTI-affiliated women were detained on Islamabad Expressway while waving party flags and chanting slogans. Officials confirmed the women were shifted to a nearby police station.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi police have also beefed up security in response to the protest call. According to City Police Officer (CPO), over 4,000 officers have been deployed across the city. Special security arrangements are in place around Adiala Jail and surrounding areas.
Special units of the Riot Management Force have also been deployed. Section 144 has been imposed across Rawalpindi, and the CPO has directed full enforcement of the ban on public gatherings. The situation is being monitored through Safe City cameras and other surveillance tools.
The CPO warned that any violation of the law would be met with immediate action, adding that no one would be allowed to disrupt public life. Police have established special pickets and patrolling teams to ensure law and order.
A spokesperson for Rawalpindi Police reaffirmed that upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace remains the department’s top priority.
